Toughened Safety Glass
Toughened Glass – also known as tempered glass – is up to 5 times stronger than ordinary glass.
The glass goes through a controlled thermal process through intense heating then rapid cooling. The treatment strengthens the glass, making it more heat resistant and much more difficult to break.
If the glass was to be broken, the pane shatters into thousands of pieces, rather then chunks of jagged sharp shards as it would with standard glass – making toughened glass a lot less likely to cause injury.
- Toughened glass is typically used for:
- Glass doors, shower doors and office partitions.
- Balustrades and bolted glass assemblies.
- Shelves and table tops.
- Single and double glazing.
Wired Safety Glass
GWRC (Georgian Wire Rough Cast) – A non-insulated obscure wired glass, for internal or external use, with a 30 minute integrity fire
rating. The wire offers additional security if the glass was to be broken & the obscure texture offers additional privacy.
GWPP (Georgian Wire Polished Plate) – A non-insulated clear wired glass, for internal or external use, with a 30 minute integrity fire
rating. The wire offers additional security if the glass was to be broken & the polished plate is ideal as the possible fire hazard can easily be seen.
Wired glass has a good track record in fire testing, offers exceptional value for money and is easy to handle, stock and glaze.
Laminated Safety Glass
We stock large sizes of laminated safety glass which is perfect for shop fronts. It has the same strength as ordinary glass but it consists of two pieces of glass joined together with a sheet of plastic in between. If the glass does get broken the inter layer holds the whole piece in place instead of shattering into a thousand pieces.
